The SNP's woes look set to continue as the party has failed to stand a candidate in a crucial by-election set to take place in September.

The Arran by-election is set to be held on September 12, but the SNP won't be on the ballot in a humiliating blow to the struggling party.

Scottish Conservative Timothy Billings is standing down, opening up the seat on the council.

Reform and the Scottish Greens are among the parties contesting the vote, and the lack of a Nats candidate will hand them an advantage in the key upcoming vote.

This comes as locals on the Isle of Arran fume at the SNP for their handling of the ferry situation.

If recent by-election results in Scotland are to go by, the Arran vote could be another difficult day for the SNP.

The party failed to win any votes when Humza Yousaf was party leader and First Minister.

The SNP did get a boost after winning an Argyll and Bute by-election in July, taking the council seat from the Lib Dems.

But with the ongoing ferry issues in Arran, the SNP may struggle to repeat that success.

In the General Election last month, the North Ayrshire and Arran was won by Labour with candidate Irene Campbell securing a 25 percent increase in vote share.
