PETALING JAYA: The GoCare charity crowdfunding platform has joined hands with a non-profit group comprising Malaysian artistes in distributing furniture to the underprivileged and helping families with disabilities.
Among others, they will install kitchen cabinets, donate food boxes and clean the homes of the affected people.
Yesterday, the GoCare Fusion Of Love “Flood Relief Home Rebuilding Campaign” saw the participation of artistes such as Zac, Adrian Tan, Jodie, Julio, Jonathan Lee, Wei, Dickson Chai and Steven.
They are from Fusion Of Love, an NGO started by singers and musicians to help disadvantaged groups.
GoCare is an initiative started by the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) to help the underprivileged through charity fundraising.
Zhixiang Zac of Fusion Of Love said the public could donate mattresses, pillows, gas stoves, rice cookers, kettles, refrigerators, small appliances and other items.
A helping hand: Volunteers helping to carry items during the Flood Relief Home Rebuilding initiative co-organised by GoCare and Malaysian artistes from the Fusion of Love NGO.
“We believe that through kindness, we will bring more warmth to society. We are carrying out post-disaster reconstruction through GoCare, hoping to help 1,000 families in the disaster areas while raising funds through crowdfunding,” he said.
GoCare consultant Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly said their crowdfunding network had been actively raising funds and getting supplies for affected families since the first wave of floods hit last month.
“During the floods, GoCare and the CRSM volunteers carried out rescue works. When the floodwater receded, the volunteers discovered that many items in the victims’ homes, including furniture and electrical appliances, were damaged,” she said.
GoCare, she said, will be sending furniture and supplies to other hard-hit areas such as those in Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Johor and Melaka as soon as possible.
Lim said more than 650 volunteers across nine states were mobilised, adding that about 17,000 lunch boxes, 20,000 dry food packs and more than 9,700 boxes of drinking water were distributed.
Five boats were dispatched, resulting in the rescue of more than 250 people, while more than 20 four-wheel-drive vehicles were used to deliver the items.
The total amount of materials sent out exceeded RM500,000 in value.
Among the furniture sponsored by the Malaysian Furniture Council included wardrobes, sofas, dining tables, bed frames and cabinets.
