       Reform UK party leader Nigel Farage has congratulated Donald Trump on his choice of his running mate pick for Vice Pesident in the upcoming US elections, and complimented the Republican senator in a Tweet.

       Trump, the Republican candidate in the race against Democrat incumbent Joe Biden, recently announced his running mate as first-term senator JD Vance.

       Mr Vance, who has been in office for less than two years, was on the shortlist along with North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and Florida senator Marco Rubio.

       Taking to X, Farage said Vance was a "top man" in a simple two-word statement, adding: "J.D. Vance a great pick as Vice President. He is a top man."

       Trump made the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social on July 15.

       "After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of vice-president of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the great state of Ohio", he wrote before listing Vance's academic and professional accomplishments.

       This comes as Vance recently slammed the UK, saying last Thursday at a conference: "I have to beat up on the UK - just one additional thing. I was talking with a friend recently. We were talking about, you know, one of the big dangers in the world, of course, is nuclear proliferation, though, of course, the Biden administration doesn't care about it.

       "And I was talking about, you know, what is the first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon and we were like, maybe it's Iran, you know, maybe Pakistan already kind of counts and then we sort of finally decided maybe it's actually the UK, since Labour just took over."

       Despite these comments, Vance is reported as having good relations with UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.

       Farage recently said he would travel to the US to see Donald Trump after the former President was shot in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania.

       Speaking to the Express ahead of watching Carlos Alcaraz take on Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon men's singles final, Farage said: "It's been a pretty sleepless night worrying about my friend. But he's okay but others aren't but yes I will try and forget about it for a couple of hours."
