A political commentator has claimed United States president Donald Trump has "handed Putin a win" in Ukraine with one simple move.
The comment comes as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky claimed the country does "not hear" much support from the US anymore, and that this lack of backing could be trouble for Ukrainians. The US is now, according to political commentator Brian Allen, playing right into the hands of Russian president Vladimir Putin, as "icing out" Ukraine is "exactly what Russia wanted".
Speaking in a recent press appearance, president Zelensky suggested the US had frozen Ukraine out and were not helping as often as they had in previous years.
He said: "But we do not hear such support from the United States today. We know that they and several other European partners do not support our membership to NATO."

Zelensky continued: "I believe that this is a great desire of Russia, and it coincides with this result." Allen further explained the comments and claimed the Ukrainian president has "dropped the mask" in his recent appearance.
He took to X and wrote: "Zelensky just dropped the mask: The U.S. is icing out Ukraine from NATO—exactly what Russia wanted all along.
"After years of grandstanding about 'defending democracy,' Washington is now leaving Ukraine twisting in the wind, handing Putin the geopolitical win he’s been gunning for."
It comes after comments from US President Trump, who claimed Ukraine could have made a deal with Russia. He said: "I’m very disappointed, I hear that they’re upset about not having a seat [at the talks]. Today I heard, 'oh, well, we weren't invited.'
"Well, you've been there for three years... You should have never started it. You could have made a deal."

Trump added: "They want a seat at the table, but you could say... wouldn’t the people of Ukraine have a say? It’s been a long time since we’ve had an election. That’s not a Russian thing, that’s something coming from me, from other countries.
"We have a situation where we haven’t had elections in Ukraine, where we have essentially martial law in Ukraine, where the leader in Ukraine – I mean, I hate to say it, but he’s down at 4% approval rating – and where a country has been blown to smithereens. Most of the cities are laying on their sides. The buildings are collapsed. It looks like a massive demolition site."
Zelensky, who was elected in 2019, countered Trump's comments, adding: "I’m president of Ukraine because 73% of people voted for me. And today I’m president because the majority in my country support me. I’m a patriot, just like the people defending our country.
"Of course Russia wants to get rid of me. Maybe not physically any longer, like they did at the beginning of the war but politically. And that’s absolutely understandable as I’m a very uncomfortable person, uncomfortable for Putin."
