SEREMBAN: Disgruntled Negri Sembilan PKR leaders have resolved their differences with Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, says party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During a two-hour meeting he chaired at the Mentri Besar’s official residence here yesterday, Anwar said it was agreed that Aminuddin would stay put as state PKR chief.

Anwar said the position of Aminuddin as Mentri Besar was not raised, adding that no one was opposed to this.

“What was raised was that Aminuddin should give more focus to strengthening the respective divisions and the party election machinery so that we can be better prepared for the general election,” Anwar said after the meeting.

The Port Dickson MP said the four PKR assemblymen, division and branch leaders who attended were given an opportunity to give their views.

At the conclusion, he said there was a clear commitment to work as a team and put aside differences to enable Aminuddin to continue as the state PKR chief.

“There were some decisions, or rather, adjustments in terms of the leadership of the political and membership bureaus so that Aminuddin could better discharge his duties as MB and state party chief. All views were taken into account,” he said.

On Sunday, a group claimed that Aminuddin failed to strengthen the party at the division and branch levels and said this could adversely affect the party in the next general election.

In a statement, they also said he had failed to make the party the dominant member of the state government.

The following day, the four assemblymen – Datuk M. Ravi (Sri Tanjung), Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek (Ampangan), Datuk Ismail Ahmad (Labu) and Datuk Michael Yek (Chuah) – urged Anwar to step in and resolve the problems in the state leadership.

In response, Aminuddin denied claims that he deliberately failed to meet party grassroots or organise activities in recent months, explaining that it was only because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Ravi, who is also state legislative assembly Deputy Speaker, said some party members had earlier proposed that Aminuddin focus on running the state administration while the post of state party chief be held by another.
