Virtual Covid-19 assessment centres to be expanded to several states, says Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR: There are plans to expand virtual Covid-19 assessment centres (CAC) in several states, says Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).

"Following the success of the virtual CAC in monitoring Category 1 and 2 Covid-19 cases in the Greater Klang Valley area, efforts are being made to set up virtual CACs in other states to deal with the high number of cases in the country," the Health Minister said when replying to a question raised by Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (PN-Sabak Bernam) in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Sept 22).

He said the move will allow for assessment to be carried out virtually initially with cases referred for further medical treatment if needed.

At present, Khairy said a total of 209 CACs have been set up in all districts nationwide with plans to set up more in districts which are experiencing a rise in cases.

He said that the CACs merely carried out assessment and evaluation of cases and did not provide treatment, adding that the CACs would either recommend a home quarantine order for those who were Covid-19 positive but without symptoms while referring to symptomatic cases for medical treatment.

Khairy also said that there was no need for appointments to be made prior to a visit to the CACs following a reduction in Covid-19 cases recently.

"Walk-ins are now allowed in several states such as what is being done in Selangor," he added.

On "brought-in-dead" cases, Khairy said that efforts were being made to lower the numbers of such fatalities.

He noted this could be achieved through empowerment of local community leaders.

"The local leaders should be aware of those in their community who are positive or have symptoms so that they can be brought to the CAC for assessment and get medical treatment as soon as possible," he said.
