KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigations into the misappropriation of US$6mil (RM25mil) led the graft busters to the discovery of luxury vehicles and RM50,000 in cash at a hotel here.

       MACC is currently probing three of its officers over missing funds connected to the case that involves the former chief of an intelligence agency.

       Sources told a local daily that MACC investigators had seized the cash and vehicles, including a high-powered motorcycle, at a hotel in the city.

       The items are believed to be owned by one of the three MACC officers who were detained by the commission and remanded from Sept 14 to 19 to assist in investigations into the case.

       “The vehicles were found at the hotel’s car park area and MACC is checking their documentation to determine the origins of the vehicles,” the sources told Utusan Malaysia.

       MACC, said the report, was also checking whether the RM50,000 was part of the US$6mil linked to the former head of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation, Datuk Hasanah Ab Hamid.

       “All assets and financial records of the three officers are being scrutinised as the investigators dig deeper into the case,” the sources added.

       The daily also claimed that the trio are expected to be charged soon.

       This latest development added to the saga which also saw one of the trio, a senior officer, being arrested by the police on Tuesday for allegedly possessing drugs and a firearm.

       Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said on Thursday that the suspect had since been remanded.

       The officers are under probe over the misappropriation of US$6mil seized from Hasanah previously.

       On Monday, MACC released a statement confirming that three of its officers were detained to assist in investigations into allegations of abuse of power and misconduct in a case involving a “former senior government servant who has been discharged but not acquitted by the court”.

       The commission said a thorough probe was underway.

       In April, Hasanah was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the High Court for criminal breach of trust involving RM50.4mil of government funds.

       The case was withdrawn following a new development.

       The MACC statement came on the heels of reports that Hasanah had attempted to reclaim the seized money but found part of it missing and replaced with counterfeit notes.
