CARRIE Johnson and the Prime Minister announced the name of their new baby girl on Instagram as Romy.

       But where does the name come from? Here's what we know.

       Mum Carrie Johnson posted an adorable picture on Instagram of their new daughter under a Christmas tree in a Moses basket accompanied by another toddler with a mop of unmistakable blond hair.

       She announced that the new addition to their family, born on December 9, would be called Romy, a nickname after her aunt, Rosemary.

       Rosemary is thought come from the Latin ros marinus, meaning "dew of the sea".

       It might also be a combination of Rose and the name Mary.

       Where did Boris Johnson's daughter's name come from?

       Baby Romy is named after Carrie Johnson's aunt.

       Her first middle name Iris, Carrie confirmed as being Greek for "rainbow".

       And her second middle name, Charlotte, is after Boris Johnson's late mother, who Carrie said "we miss very much".

       She added: "Wilf has been stroking Romy's hair, giving big kisses and playing with his matchbox cars right next to her crib, just in case she feels like joining in too."

       How many other children does Boris Johnson have?

       Boris is believed to have seven children, his latest child, born on December 9, 2021, being the second between the Prime Minister and Carrie Johnson after baby Wilfred was born in April, 2020.

       There is a 28-year age gap between Boris' eldest, Lara Lettice, and baby Romy.

       She was conceived ahead of the wedding between the Prime Minister and his ex-wife, married barrister Marina Wheeler in 1993 Marina Wheeler.

       Lara, who styles herself with the double barrelled surname Johnson-Wheeler, is a writer, editor and broadcaster.

       From his marriage to Marina Wheeler, he also has Milo Arthur, 26, Cassia Peaches, 24 and Theodore Apollo, 22.

       Stephanie, born in 2009, the product of an affair with art advisory Helen Macintyre.

       And the PM has two more children, Wilfred and Romy, with Carrie Johnson.
