A man was fatally shot early Sunday in Northwest Washington, police said, not far from North Capitol Street and New York Avenue.
At approximately 1 a.m., D.C. police said, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1100 block of First Place NW and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police identified the deceased man as 36-year-old Morris Mitchell of Northeast D.C.

Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene, and the body was transported to the chief medical examiner’s office, police said. Police did not release any additional information on the shooting.
