Just Stop Oil (JSO) activists have been left with egg on their faces after filming themselves delivering a letter to an MP's house to highlight police arrests - only to later realise it was the wrong house.

An unnamed female environmentalist was filmed walking down a street somewhere in the UK with a letter for Wes Streeting, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

Holding the large white envelope with West Streeting MP scrawled on the front, the activist posted it through a letterbox of a house triumphantly declaring it was Mr Streeting's property and that there were "no police" around.

But in an embarrassing development, Mr Streeting later tweeted it was not his house and JSO were forced to admit in a post on their own social media they had made an error.

The stunt comes as fears have grown for the safety of MPs as activists increasingly target their personal addresses, with environmental campaigners and pro-Palestine groups both using the tactics.

In a video of the misguided letter posting stunt shared on JSO's X today, the eco-activist says: "This is the letter I'm delivering to Wes Streeting, it appears that there's no police here at this time.

"Maybe they've realised that there's not much harm in just delivering a letter to your MP, it's what they've always asked us to do after all."

The young woman, wearing a brown jacket and check shirt and a blue backpack, proceeds to then walk on the driveway of the property and posts the large white envelope through a letterbox.

Turning to the lens as she leaves, the JSO campaigner sarcastically asks the camera: "Shall I go hand myself in for breaking bail? I mean that seemed pretty harmless but it was worth arresting me for last time, so..."

I don’t know which poor sod got your letter, but that isn’t my house ??????

If you want to write to me, you can do so quite easily via Parliament or my constituency office.

However, less than 30 minutes after the video was posted today, the JSO X account shared an update, saying: "Oops, so apparently that's the wrong house. You win some you lose some. Could whoever got our letter post it on to Wes? Cheers x".

Speaking to Express.co.uk previously about the safety of MPs, the Met Police said: "Year-round, the Met works closely with Parliamentary authorities on issues relating to the security of MPs, and security arrangements for individual MPs are kept under continual review.

"Where particular concerns are identified, security arrangements are reviewed, adapted and strengthened as appropriate. We continue to review the support we provide to MPs and their staff to ensure we have the right measures in place to keep them safe.

"Should any MPs or their staff have any immediate concerns about their safety then they should contact their local police force straight away or call 999."
