MP Dawn Butler said she would report the forum to the Met Police (Image: GETTY)
A Labour MP and the founder of an online messaging company have become embroiled in a row after the politician was hit with a stream of abusive comments.
Dawn Butler, the Brent Central MP, shared a video of tragic trans teen Brianna Ghey's father breaking down in tears outside court after two teenagers were convicted of her murder.
Accompanying the video on Mumsnet, she said: "Heartbreaking. Just Heartbreaking. Listening to this Father's love for his trans Daughter Brianna is powerful.
"This cruel government has created so much hate towards the trans community they should be ashamed." But her comment was met with negative backlash, which provoked a reaction.

The 54-year-old MP told commenters to "get a life" after many said she had suggested the teenager's death was driven by "hate towards the trans community".
The Brent MP has since appeared to accuse the website of encouraging the comments, saying: "Time for me to unfollow and report Mumsnet to @metpoliceuk."
Threatening to report Mumsnet to the Met Police for it to be "taken down", the founder Justine Roberts hit back: "Sometimes people will make comments individuals don't like."

Cheshire Police stated that they do not believe the murder was driven by transphobia. However, text messages revealed during the trial showed that Boy Y made a series of vile, transphobic remarks about Brianna, including referring to her as "it" and asking whether she was a "femboy or a t*****?".
Boy Y also asked whether, when attacked, she would "scream like a man or a girl". Ms Butler's post was shared on Mumsnet, prompting a slew of "nasty, vicious and inhumane" comments attacking the Labour MP.
She doubled down on her response today, before telling her critics: "Get a life! Be kinder, be nicer, be better! It's Christmas." Mumsnet has been regularly accused of hosting transphobic discussions posted by its members.

Mumsnet founder and CEO Justine Roberts defended the forum to the MailOnline: "We allow legal discussion, which sometimes means people will make comments that individuals don't agree with or like.
"We specifically disallow hate speech and deliberately inflammatory posts and we have an active moderation team who respond, on average in under an hour, to complaints about posts.

"It's somewhat ironic that Ms Butler chose to post her attack on Mumsnet on X (formerly Twitter) which regularly hosts comments that wouldn't last a moment on Mumsnet and where the moderation is light touch at best.
"We see this kind of double standard a lot and I'm beginning to wonder if it might be because Mumsnet is the only major platform dominated by women's voices."
