JOHOR BAHRU: As the two-week-long campaigning period enters its second day on Sunday (Feb 27), DAP appeared to have a rough start, as party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and incumbent Johor Jaya assemblyman Liow Cai Tung were seen in a video being criticised by locals.

During a walkabout at the Johor Jaya morning market, Lim and Liow were seen approaching a fruit seller, urging him to vote for Liow, who will be defending her Johor Jaya state seat.

"Yes, I will vote (in the state election). But I will not support you this time around," the fruit seller was heard saying in the video.

The unnamed fruit seller said that locals had previously requested Liow's help to fix an intersection and a road nearby, which is an accident-prone area.

Liow was heard saying that they were in the midst of evaluating the locals' request on fixing the intersection.

The fruit seller, however, did not accept her explanation.

"You must do you work as a state assemblyman and calls must be picked up," the man was heard saying in the 34-second clip.

Liow will be locked in a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional's Chan San San and Perikatan Nasional's Ker Ching Sheng in the Johor Jaya state seat.

During the 14th General Election in 2018, Liow won with a majority of 15,565 votes against Barisan and PAS.

DAP will be contesting 14 seats in the coming state election - Tangkak, Senai, Yong Peng, Pekan Nenas, Bentayan, Bekok, Johor Jaya, Mengkibol, Penggaram, Stulan, Johor Jaya, Paloh, Perling, Skudai.
