KUALA LUMPUR: Two new streams are to be included in conjunction with the renaming of the government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies (GLICs) Disaster Recovery Network, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

       In his speech at the GLC Open Day 2022 event, the Prime Minister said the disaster recovery network will now be known as GLC Demi Rakyat dan Negara (GDRN) with education and well-being streams included alongside humanitarian efforts.

       “The education stream encompasses scholarships, education opportunities and access to education, as well as development of individuals’ soft skills.

       “The well-being stream in turn prioritises improving quality of life through different aspects of generating income, developing both vocational and financial skills as well as ensuring a healthy well-being,” he said.

       He added that these new scopes would see GDRN carrying out its Corporate Social Responsibilities in a consolidated and organised manner while optimising both GLC and GLIC resources to benefit both the B40 and targeted groups.

       Also present was Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

       GDRN was first introduced in 2013 through the Putrajaya Committee for GLC High Performance with Khazanah Nasional as its Secretariat.

       The network was successfully deployed between 2013 and 2016 in various relief and reconstruction work where contributions by GLCs and GLICs were coordinated and deployed.

       It’s most recent initiative was streamlining both GLC and GLIC efforts to assist the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the Welfare Department (JKM) for the flood crisis in December 2021.
