MELAKA: Wresting two seats from Pakatan Harapan is a proud achievement for MCA, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president also said Barisan Nasional's resounding victory in the Melaka election is proof that the people have rejected Pakatan.

"Congratulations to all Barisan candidates for the huge win of 21 out of 28 seats, and receiving the mandate from the people to govern the state of Melaka.

"Our highest appreciation goes to all Melaka voters for trusting Barisan to provide stability and prosperity.

"Barisan will promise to deliver the pledges in its manifesto for the benefit of the people and the state of Melaka.

"This is clear proof that the people have rejected Pakatan for failing to govern properly, after they were given the mandate in GE14.

"Their failure to deliver their manifesto pledges also caused the people to reject them.

"For MCA, successfully gaining two seats from Pakatan is a proud achievement. Hopefully, this momentum is continuous and we will increase our efforts," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Saturday (Nov 20).

The two seats won by MCA are Kelebang and Machap Jaya.

In Kelebang, MCA's Datuk Lim Ban Hong won the seat with an 876-vote majority, defeating incumbent Datuk Gue Teck of Pakatan and Bakri Jamaluddin of Perikatan Nasional.

In Machap Jaya, Ngwe Hee Sem won with a majority of 938 votes in a five-cornered fight.

In GE14, Pakatan's Ginie Lim won the seat.

Dr Wee also thanked the Barisan machinery for their relentless work and dedication to deliver the win.

He also expressed appreciation to Election Commission workers, the police, medical teams and all involved in ensuring the smooth running of the Melaka State Election.
