PETALING JAYA: A total of five states have recorded intensive care unit (ICU) bed usage of 50% or more, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said in a statement on Monday (Feb 28) that the states and federal territories are Kelantan (94%), Johor (69%), Putrajaya (67%), Kuala Lumpur (62%), Perak (58%) and Melaka (58%).

He added that 12 states have more than 50% usage of non-ICU beds.

       The states are Kelantan (108%), Selangor (101%), Putrajaya (95%), Kuala Lumpur (94%), Perak (87%), Perlis (74%), Johor (70%), Pahang (66%), Sabah (60%), Penang (60%), Terengganu (57%), and Sarawak (56%).

As for the bed usage at Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC), only Melaka exceeds 50%.

Dr Noor Hisham added that the number of Covid-19 patients requiring ventilators has increased to 193.

"The percentage of total ventilator usage is 35% and this is for Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients. Overall, each state has a quick response plan in the event of an increase in cases requiring admission to PKRC, hospitals, and ICUs," he said.

As of Feb 27, a total of 1,559 cases were admitted to hospitals, of which 569 (36.5%) were in categories three, four and five; while the remaining 990 (63.5%) were in categories one and two.

He said 22,380 cases of recoveries were reported, bringing the cumulative figure to 3,085,940.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said that two Covid-19 cases have been identified among flood victims in Terengganu with a cumulative total of 25 cases.

"A total of 54 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) involving 15 districts have been opened with a total of 9,741 victims. The flood control rooms in both states were activated on Feb 26," he said.

"All reported Covid-19 cases were identified and isolated from other flood victims in special PPS," added Dr Noor Hisham.

He said that no clusters among flood victims were reported in PPS and that as of Sunday (Feb 27) there were seven acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases and one case of skin disease.
