       OSAKA -- The number of new coronavirus infections confirmed in Osaka Prefecture on Jan. 12 is set to reach around 1,700, prefectural government sources have disclosed.

       It will be the first time for the prefecture to register over 1,000 new coronavirus cases in a day since Sept. 15, 2021, when the prefecture recorded 1,160 new cases. On Jan. 5, it reported a daily total of 244 new cases, and infections have been increasing since.
