TOKYO -- Fashion Week Tokyo, one of the biggest events of its kind in Japan, began at the Shibuya Hikarie commercial complex in the capital's Shibuya Ward and other venues on Aug. 30.

Forty-eight brands are participating in Tokyo Collection, the core event of Fashion Week Tokyo, to introduce new items for spring and summer 2022. Twenty-eight brands have gone digital amid the coronavirus pandemic. The event, hosted by the Japan Fashion Week Organization and sponsored by The Mainichi Newspapers Co. and other entities, will continue until Sept. 4.

"Mikage Shin," a brand famous for its genderless clothes, held a show at Shibuya Hikarie and introduced a collection of jackets with hand-drawn patterns with rural motifs and beautifully pleated skirts.

According to the designer Mikage Shin, she was inspired by the up-and-coming attitude of the architectural group Bunriha Kenchiku Kai, which emerged as Japan's first modern architectural movement when the Spanish flu broke out about 100 years ago.
