PETALING JAYA: A bakery here has taken a stand against racism after a customer's mother reportedly said that cakes made by a certain race are not delicious.

       The Heart and Halo Vegan and Vegetarian bakery took to social media to say that while it was not its first experience encountering racism, it hoped that this would be the last as racial discrimination can not be tolerated.

       "We spent hours talking to this customer yesterday and we went out of our way to accept a customised order even though we were extremely packed for the week.

       "Today, we got a call asking what's our head baker's race," read the post on the bakery's Instagram stories, which added that it answered the caller's question.

       The bakery then attached a screenshot of the conversation between them and the customer, who wrote: "I'm so sorry that my mother disagrees. It was my mother who answered the phone just now."

       The bakery added that the customer then said that they were "very sorry" and said that the client does not share their mother's opinion.

       The bakery also said it did not want apologies on behalf of those who make racist statements, saying that one cannot be against racism if they are okay with others being racist.

       "It doesn't work that way. Despite the love and effort we give for our bakery every day, our skin colour is still a factor in determining if we make a sale," it said.

       The bakery added that it is a multiracial company that respects all races and religions alike, and that it expected the same from its customers.

       "We have dealt with racism so many times in the past and we've tried to educate them to be better but today was the last straw," it said in the post.
