KULAI: Police have arrested 20 men for allegedly gambling and being involved in organising illegal cockfights at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Baru Senai here.
Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said based on information about gambling activities, police carried out an operation at around 4.40pm on Sunday (July 25).
“When we arrived at the scene, the suspects were engrossed in the cockfighting underneath a tent,” he said here on Monday (July 26).
Supt Tok added that police then arrested all the suspects, aged between 22 and 62 years.
He said police also seized several items used in the cockfights as well as cash amounting to RM29,965 in bets from the suspects.
“We also seized 11 roosters and eight rooster carcasses,” he said, adding that all the items seized had been brought back to the Kulai district police headquarters for further investigations.
Supt Tok said the suspects were under remand for three days until Wednesday (July 28) to assist with the investigations.
He also said police have classified the case under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, Section 3(1) of the Measures of Prevention and Cruelty to Animals Act 1952, Section 296 of the Penal Code, and Section 17(1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2021.
