KULAI: Police have arrested six suspects for their involvement in a robbery at a factory on Jalan Seelong here.
Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said the suspects, all locals aged between 17 and 48, were nabbed in several locations in Senai, Ulu Tiram and Johor Baru.
He said they were detained in a joint operation involving a team from the Kulai police district headquarters Crime Investigation Department, Operation/Intelligence/Record Division (D4) and Special Investigation Division (D9) from the Johor police contingent.
“The operations took place on Tuesday (March 29) and Wednesday (March 30),” Supt Tok said in a statement on Thursday (March 31).
He said the suspects were arrested following a report by a foreign factory worker that four men armed with an iron rod had entered the premises on March 6.
Supt Tok said the worker was beaten by the suspects causing injuries on his left shoulder.
“The suspects fled with two bags, each containing a tonne of bronze and copper as well as a mobile phone belonging to the worker,’’ he said.
Supt Tok said initial investigation showed five out of the six suspects have previous criminal records including drug-related offences.
He said police also seized a metal box, two machetes, crowbars, a T-shirt, eight units of mobile phones, a power bank and a lorry.
Supt Tok said investigation on the case is ongoing and whether the suspects were involved in robbery cases in areas in the Kulai district or outside Kulai.
He said the suspects have been remanded from March 30 until April 5, and the case is being investigated under Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code.
