KUALA LUMPUR: Political and economic instability post-GE14 has burdened the people, said a Wanita Umno leader as she made a case for the people to go to the ballot box soon to elect Barisan Nasional to lead the country again.
Asmaiza Ahmad, speaking as a representative from Perlis, said the situation in the country after the last general election had caused much concern among the people.
“There has been a lot of confusion since this (five-year) term started. Political instability has affected the people, causing the cost of living to go up.
“Subsidies which were previously given by the Barisan government were reduced or taken back. To make things worse, Covid-19 happened.
“All this has made the people realise the importance of a stable government. That is why I believe that the general election should be held soon.
“We should capitalise on the good momentum and the feel good factor from the people for Barisan,” she said during debate at the Wanita wing’s meeting on Thursday (March 17) as part of the 2021 Umno general assembly here.
Asmaiza, who is the Chuping assemblyman, called on the Umno leadership – party president, deputy president and the three vice-presidents including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob – to sit down and discuss the best time to call for the polls.
