SEGAMAT: A motorcyclist escaped death after he attempted to cross a flooded road at Bukit Sengit in Pogoh near here.

       Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Department chief Mazuki Ismail said Nor Ibrahim Ariffin was riding his motorcycle in the area when the incident took place at 7.58am on Monday (Jan 3).

       "The 37-year-old victim was swept away by a strong current when he tried to cross the flooded road," he said in a statement.

       Mazuki said six firefighters from the Bandar Baru Segamat station were deployed to the scene led by senior officer II Kenny Ismol Abd Rahman.

       He added that the man was lucky as he was able to cling to a tree and keep from being carried off by the rushing waters.

       Firefighters then used a safety rope to rescue Nor Ibrahim, he said, adding that the operation ended at 8.30am.
