THE Pergerakan Belia India Muslim Malaysia (Gepima) hosted the 21st national level Quran recitation, Azan recital and Tamil debate competition, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The event saw participation from youths representing Indian Muslim madrasah from all over the country in several categories.
Fatimah Norlaen Abdul Malik from Masjid India Muslim Ipoh took home the top prize in the Tamil debate competition.
Ismail Rafiq Noor Muhammad from Selangor won the Quran recitation event while Zulafahmi Ismail, also from Ipoh, won the Azan recital event.
Madrasah Sirajul Hudha in Taman Batu Caves was selected as the overall best school with the highest points across all of the events.
Gepima adviser Mohamad Kathir Ali said all the Indian Muslim madrasah in the country must be united under the same umbrella to produce better qualified and trained Indian Muslim ustaz and ustazah.
He said the Indian Muslim community must also continue to support the work of ustaz and ustazah from India who are serving in local mosques and madrasah.
