PARENTS have blasted a school's "military camp-style correction sessions" that punish pupils for breaking even one simple rule.

       Dad Adam Taylor was left furious after his daughter landed a 120-minute detention with less than two hours' notice thanks to the "daft" new system.

       He had expected 14-year-old Caitlin to leave St Peter's Academy, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, on time at 3pm on September 10.

       But four breaches of the new "correction" orders saw her handed an immediate two-hour session designed to "recognise her mistakes and move forward".

       Now 36-year-old Adam, from Fenton, has accused the school of going too far with its new "military camp" rules.

       A 30-minute "correction" is slapped onto every student each time they break one of six "basic expectations".

       These relate to behaviour, punctuality, correct uniform, inappropriate language, answering back, and making sure they have their student organiser.

       It is understood that Caitlin's breaches related to four uniform misdemeanours.

       Adam received a text from the school at 1.46pm on Friday which read: "Caitlin has received four corrections today so we have a two-hour correction after school. Finish time 5pm."

       Although window cleaner Adam said he recognises the importance of disciplining kids, he blasted the harsh new "golden rules".

       "It’s more like a military camp," he said. "I got a text message an hour before school finished informing me that she had got a detention.

       "One of the corrections was for a wrong PE top which is my fault.

       "These new rules just started on the Monday when they went back to school.

       "My daughter was there until 5pm. In a few months' time at 5pm it’s going to be pitch black walking home.

       "I know where the school is coming from - you have got to discipline kids - but if someone is two minutes late to school then they get one of these 30minute corrections, and if they speak in a lesson they get a correction.

       "They can get four or five of them throughout the day.

       "I just think it’s going too far. They have to sit in the hall, be quiet, or fill in one of these daft correction forms."

       These state: "The purpose of this document is to support you to reach your full potential.

       "Everyone makes mistakes but moving forward and learning from them will help you take steps towards achieving your best and living a purposeful and successful life.

       "Answer the questions thoughtfully and genuinely as this will then be a useful reflection on your correction."

       St Peter's Academy declined to comment on the issue.

       But in a letter to parents, Principal Michael Astley said: "From September we will be introducing ‘learning habits’ with staff and students, where all students will follow six basic expectations every lesson.

       "If a student doesn’t follow these expectations they will receive a 30-minute correction session for each time they have not met one up to 120 minutes.

       "These correction sessions will take place the same day, unless it happened during period five and it will roll over to the next day.

       "Parents will be informed before 2pm on that day.

       "During these sessions students will reflect on their learning habits and practice getting them right for the next day."
