The current talk about rising food prices brings to mind how bread-and-butter issues have always been at the forefront of the news coverage in The Star.

       This can be seen on the front page of Feb 6, 1974, which highlighted the price of bread due to rising cost of ingredients.

       The report said buns with kaya, margarine or other spread would go up by five sen to 15 sen a bun.
