PORT KLANG: There was a small inferno early Thursday (Feb 24) morning when fire razed some food stalls at Jalan Besar, Pandamaran near here.
The 15 stalls, owned by the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), were razed at about 3.15am.
According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis, there were no casualties in the early morning episode, but some 80% of the structure suffered fire damage.
"Each of the stalls measured 10×10 ft and were temporary structures of the open variety," he said.
Fifteen firemen in two fire engines from the Port Klang and Seri Andalas fire stations rushed to the spot to put out the fire.
"The firemen managed to completely extinguish the fire at 5.18am," said Norazam.
In an unrelated incident, a 45-year-old man was burnt to death when his car crashed into a road divider and burst into flames.
According to Norazam, the 1am accident happened along the KM428 of the North-South Highway at the intersection exiting the Bukit Tagar toll plaza heading south.
"The accident involved a multipurpose vehicle (MPV), heading towards the Bukit Beruntung exit, which lost control, hit the road divider and burst into flames after turning turtle," said Norazam.
He added that the charred remains of the driver were extricated by firemen from the vehicle, which was 90% burnt, with the use of rescue equipment.
"The man's remains were surrendered to the police for further action," he said.
About eight firemen in two vehicles had rushed to the scene of the accident from the Bukit Sentosa fire station upon notification of the accident.
