PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized over RM1.6mil in assets linked to one of its senior officers.

The officer is facing abuse of power allegations and misappropriation.

An Utusan Malaysia article stated that the MACC seized a house in Selangor, two Ducati high-powered motorcycles, a Mercedes-Benz luxury car as well as Honda Type-R cars.

Quoting sources, the Malay daily reported that the assets were believed to be owned by the 40-year-old senior MACC officer with the rank of senior superintendent.

It added that the MACC was in the process of finding the source of the assets because the officer was living beyond his means.

“The investigation will now focus on the senior superintendent as he is among those responsible for keeping the exhibits in cases under investigation.

"We are also looking into the assets of the two officers currently under remand," the report added.

MACC is currently probing three of its officers over missing funds connected to the case that involves the former chief of an intelligence agency.

MACC recently released a statement confirming that three of its officers were detained to assist in investigations into allegations of abuse of power and misconduct in a case involving a “former senior government servant who has been discharged but not acquitted by the court”.

The commission said a thorough probe was underway.

In April, former head of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation, Datuk Hasanah Ab Hamid, was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the High Court for criminal breach of trust involving RM50.4mil of government funds.

The case was withdrawn following a new development.

The MACC statement came on the heels of reports that Hasanah had attempted to reclaim the seized money but found part of it missing and replaced with counterfeit notes.
