PETALING JAYA: Chow Kon Yeow has been nominated as Penang chief minister for a second term if Pakatan Harapan retains the state government at the coming polls, says Anthony Loke.

The DAP secretary-general said the unanimous decision was made at a meeting led by himself, DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng, deputy national chairman Gobind Singh Deo and vice chairmen Nga Kor Ming and M. Kulasegaran on Thursday (July 13).

"Our decision has been relayed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who acknowledged it in his capacity as Pakatan chairman," Loke said in a statement late Thursday (July 13) evening.

Chow first assumed the post of Penang chief minister in 2018.

The committee, Loke said, also decided to perform a "major renewal" for DAP members in the Penang state exco lineup if Pakatan was given the mandate to form the government.

"This is necessary to ensure a smooth transition to young, dynamic and capable DAP leaders in Penang," he added.

Loke added that the full list of DAP candidates would be decided on by the party’s candidate selection committee in the coming week.

"We will announce our candidates at least a week before nomination day," he said.

The states of Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will hold their state polls simultaneously on Aug 12, with early polling on Aug 8.

Nomination day is on July 29.
