PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertua Negri of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak has been given an update on efforts to improve the state’s transportation system, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said the Penang governor was happy with the progress and is confident with the ministry’s efforts to improve the state’s transportation system including on the proposed expansion of the state’s international airport.

“In this meeting, I provided details on the ministry’s efforts in developing the transport and logistics industry, especially in Penang, covering the land, air and maritime sectors.

“I have informed TYT Tun on the planned Penang Port development project and explained in detail on the proposed expansion of the Penang International Airport which will be done in phases after taking into account the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and study of the National Airport Strategic Plan (NASP).

“I am relieved and happy when Tun showed a positive reaction and confidence in the ministry’s efforts, which always prioritises the interests of the people without ever marginalising Pulau Mutiara,” he said in a Facebook post.

Dr Wee also said the ministry will help facilitate the economic growth and development of Penang.

“It is well known that Penang is one of the states that contributes a lot to the country, especially in the tourism and economic sectors.

“Therefore, I will ensure the Transport Ministry always provides the best service to continue to boost economic growth and development of Penang,” he added.

Dr Wee said that Ahmad Fuzi is an experienced retired diplomat with extensive knowledge of the maritime sector, diplomatic relations and aviation-related matters regulated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The meeting, which lasted for almost two hours, was also attended by Penang Port Commission (SPPP) chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, SPPP board members Yeoh Chin Kah and Datuk Koay Kar Huah.
