PUTRAJAYA: The usage of intensive care unit (ICU) beds in the country is at 90%, with the states of Sabah (126% out of 145 beds), Kedah (121% out of 104) and Perak (107% out of 90) operating at overcapacity.
These were the Health Ministry’s latest statistics up to 5pm on Sept 1, as reported on Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s Twitter account.
Selangor, which has a capacity of 350 ICU beds, was currently at 99% usage. Also operating close to full capacity are Kelantan (99% out of 77), Penang (95% of 69) and Johor (95% of 108).
Perlis, which had a total of 18 ICU beds, was the only state that currently has zero patients under intensive care.
Negri Sembilan’s ICU usage was at 43% (out of 88 beds), while Labuan (18 ICU beds) and Sarawak (120 ICU beds) both had utilised 58%.
In total, there were 1,608 ICU beds nationwide.
In terms of non-ICU hospital beds, three states were operating at overcapacity - Penang (117% out of 829 beds), Perlis (102% of 185 beds) and Johor (101% of 2,461 beds).
Non-ICU bed usage at Kelantan was at 95% (out of 899 beds) Kedah was at 94% (out of 1,165), Sabah at 92% (out of 1,884) and Sarawak at 92% (out of 1,072).
Selangor’s non-ICU bed usage was at 66% (out of 4,247 beds) while Kuala Lumpur was at 58% (out of 1,626 beds).
Labuan had the lowest - with 5% of its 106 non-ICU beds utilised.
The overall utilisation of non-ICU beds in the country was 78% out of 18,672 beds.
