KLANG: People in flood-hit areas have been urged to limit their movements and stay at home, as heavy rain is expected to continue in several states including the Klang Valley.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said it was better for people to stay at home at this time.

"If the water level is rising and your house becomes inundated with water, the safest option is to evacuate to the nearest evacuation centre.

"People should also be careful with using electrical appliances if their houses were affected by the floods," he said when contacted on Saturday (Dec 18).

Norazam said motorists in light vehicles should also avoid crossing roads where waters were rising and currents were strong.

"I also want to advise families to keep a watchful eye on their children during this time.

"Do not allow them to swim in the floodwaters," he said, adding that it was difficult to predict the depth of the floodwaters.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said state police were coordinating with all relevant agencies to ensure the safety of all those affected by the floods.

"We will deploy our personnel to help ensure the safety of people in the affected areas.

"Always listen to advice and orders from our personnel for your own safety and avoid taking unnecessary risks," he said.
