MPs are in line for a bumper pay rise worth thousands of pounds, according to a new announcement by the pay board.
IPSA, the independent pay and standards authority, confirmed in a statement on Monday that MPs will receive a pay increase of 2.8%, in line with the wider public sector pay rise delivered by the Government.

The boost means MPs’ pay will rise from ￡91,346 to ￡93,904, an increase of about ￡2,500.
IPSA, set up in the wake of the 2009 MPs' expenses scandal, insisted the increase is a “fair decision”.
Chairman Richard Lloyd said: “IPSA has been responsible for deciding MPs’ pay since 2011.

“Since then, our aim has been to make fair decisions on pay, both for MPs and the public.
“Our pay proposal for 2025-26 reflects the experience of the wider working public sector population, and recognises both the vital role of MPs and the current economic climate.”
However the pay rise has already faced backlash, with the Taxpayer's Alliance saying: "This will be a bitter pill to swallow given politicians of both front benches have for years hammered the living standards of taxpayers".
"MPs are guilty of delivering a record high tax burden, persistent inflation and struggling services, yet are now being rewarded for this catalogue of failures.
"Pay for politicians should be strictly linked to the country's economic performance, ideally to actual living standards measured by GDP per capita."

While the pay rise is much more than many average workers will pocket this year, it is substantially lower than that given to MPs in 2023.
In December that year IPSO announced a whopping ￡6,000 hike for MPs from April 2024, a 7.1% increase.
In 2022 left-wing MPs pledged to donate that year’s pay rise to charity after condemning their ￡2,200 boost a year amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Corbynista MP Zarah Sultana said: “I believe MPs getting a ￡2,200 pay rise is wrong and have pledged to donate mine to good causes”.
She gave half to a food bank in her Coventry constituency and the other to a charity supporting Ukrainian refugees.
While the record pay rise of ￡6,000 will anger many, some have argued MPs should be paid more to reflect the importance of their job, and reduce the number with second jobs elsewhere.
