       Liz Cheney tells Republicans defending rioters: ‘When Trump is gone, your dishonour will remain’

       The January 6 House select committee’s held its first prime-time hearing on Thursday, featuring bombshell revelations introduced by Reps Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney.

       Now the panel is scheduled to hold its next hearing at 10am ET on Monday 13 June, including testimony from Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, Bill Stepien, among others.

       Mr Trump expressed his rage after the committee played excerpts of interviews with his former Attorney General Bill Barr, daughter Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

       Mr Trump called Mr Barr “weak” and a “coward” after he told the House panel that Mr Trump’s false claims of a stolen election was “bulls***”.

       Ms Trump, one of her father’s most trusted advisors, also said she didn’t think the 2020 election was stolen and respects Barr. Her father countered she had “checked out” before the 2020 election and was being deferential to Barr.

       Meanwhile, the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post published a harsh editorial accusing Mr Trump of being a “prisoner of his own ego”.

       In her opening statement, GOP lawmaker Ms Cheney, noted a number of her party sought pardons from Mr Trump for their part in trying to overturn the election: “Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonour will remain.”

       Some 20 million Americans tuned in to watch, ratings show — equivalent to the audience for Sunday Night Football. That figure does not include streaming services.

       ICYMI: The Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post has published a harsh critique of Donald Trump, arguing that the former president “has become a prisoner of his own ego”.

       “He can’t admit his tweeting and narcissism turned off millions. He won’t stop insisting that 2020 was “stolen” even though he’s offered no proof that it’s true.”

       1655098511 Fox News to broadcast hearing on Monday

       Fox News plans to broadcast the January 6 Committee’s hearing on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

       The network had refused to broadcast the committee’s first hearing on Thursday on its flagship network, although it covered the proceedings on its Fox Business Network cable channel and streaming platforms.

       The hearing had been covered by all other major networks.Fox News ran its regular programming of opinion shows by Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity but without commercials for two hours to counter the hearing programming.

       The Fox News Channel averaged three million viewers over the two hours with its counter programming, on par with what the hosts attract on a typical night.

       As the January 6 House select committee conducts its second hearing on Monday, the focus is expected to remain on election day 2020 and the origin of claims that the polls had been stolen.

       The committee will walk through the events of election day and night and how the origin of false election fraud claims unfolded in the weeks, reported Axios.

       It will also bring attention to the hundreds of millions of dollars raised between Election Day and 6 January when the Capitol insurrection took place.

       1655092308 Trump's former campaign manager Bill Stepien to testify today

       Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Bill Stepien will testify before the January 6 House select committee on Monday.

       Mr Stepien who had taken over the Trump campaign in 2020, had allegedly spread the messaging which “included the promotion of certain false claims related to voting machines despite an internal campaign memo in which campaign staff determined such claims were false,” the committee had said while isssuing a subpoeana to him.

       Along with Mr Stepien, Chris Stirewalt, the former Fox News political editor will also appear before the committee, reported ABC News.

       Mr Stirewalt had been fired after he defended the network’s early projection that the incumbent president had lost Arizona on election night.
