Superbikers that stopped traffic at PD traffic lights slapped with fines

       PORT DICKSON: Seven individuals who were captured in two video clips allegedly committing traffic offences while riding their high powered motorcycles were charged separately at the Magistrate's court here.

       In the first case, businessman Ezy Effandy Mohd Harif, 46, and insurance agent Mohammad Zaini Mohamed, 50, were charged under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for endangering the safety and causing inconvenience to other road users.

       The duo were also charged under Rule 94 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for modifying their motorcycles and rule 12(3) of the same legislation for overtaking along a double line stretch.

       Mohammad Zaini was slapped with a fourth charge under Section 89(c) of the Police Act 1967 for displaying the logo of the Royal Malaysian Police's Special Action Unit (UTK) without prior permission.

       They allegedly committed the offences around 11.10am on Dec 5 last year along the Sungai Raya-Tanjung Agas stretch.

       The two were allegedly part of a convoy which was believed to have travelled from Kuala Sg Baru in Alor Gajah, Melaka and passed through Jalan Tg Agas Pasir Panjang Port Dickson.

       In the clip which went viral, an individual can be seen directing traffic to slow down and move to the left lane of the road to allow a convoy of at least 20 motorcycles to pass through the area.

       Both claimed trial to the charges under Section 48 of the RTA and Rule 94 of the Road Safety Rules.

       Magistrate V. Vanita fined the duo RM1,500 each in default four months jail after they pleaded guilty to the charge of overtaking along a double line stretch.

       Mohammad Zaini was also fined another RM400 in default one month jail for the offence under the Police Act.

       Both paid the fines.

       Vanita then offered bail of RM2,000 each for the two other charges and fixed Feb 8 for remention.

       The duo were represented by Eric Yeow Kok Heng from the Legal Aid bureau while Fatin Nur Athirah Zainuddin prosecuted.

       In the second case, friends K. Lohansharma, R. Devah, A. Vinoth, all 27, S. Kumaran, 31 and A. Siva Perumal, 47 also claimed trial after being slapped with four charges each.

       They allegedly committed the offences around 5.45pm on Nov 20 last year at the Sua Betong traffic junction.

       Devah works as a supervisor, Lohansharma is a despatch rider while the others are lorry drivers.

       They were charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code for negligence and compromising the safety of other road users.

       They were also slapped with a charge under Section 48 (1) of the RTA Transport Act 1987 for causing inconvenience to other road users, Rule 50 of the Road Traffic Rules for disrupting traffic flow and Rule 17 of the same legislation for beating a red traffic light.

       All four, represented by K. Sheela, claimed trial to the charges.

       Vanita then allowed them to be released on a RM3,000 bail each and fixed Feb 9 for remention.

       In a clip which also went viral, several individuals could be seen stopping and directing vehicles at the Sua Betong traffic light junction.

       The individuals allegedly stopped traffic to allow a convoy of motorcycles to pass through the junction when the light was red.
