PONTIAN: The number of flood victims in Pontian has increased significantly to 168 victims on Thursday (May 5) morning, compared to only 19 victims the evening before.
According to the state disaster management committee, three temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened in Pontian to house the victims from Kampung Sri Segambut, Kampung Jasa Sepakat and Kampung Bukit Panjang.

“The number of victims as of 8am on Thursday has gone up to 168 people from 31 families.
“We have opened two more PPS on late Wednesday (May 4), as the number of victims have increased. There are currently three PPS compared to only one on Wednesday morning.

“The victims are currently seeking shelter at the SK Melayu Raya, SK Sri Bunian and SK Seri Bukit Panjang temporary relief centres,” it said in a statement here on Thursday.
SK Sri Bunian PPS is currently housing a total of 117 victims while SK Seri Bukit Panjang and SK Melayu Raya are housing 32 and 19 people respectively.
The flood situation in Pontian comes after hours-long heavy rain on early Wednesday (May 4) morning.
