A car has had a lucky escape after dramatic footage captured it being enveloped by thrashing waves and almost carried away. As Storm Kathleen continues to batter the UK, wild seas have been causing total chaos on the southern coast.

Now a crazy clip has caught the moment an unwisely parked was swamped by water threatening to carry it into the harbour. The video was taken on Saturday afternoon at 4.30pm, April 6, outside the Ship Inn pub, in Porthleven.

Horrified onlookers can be heard screaming as the red car is under threat from the wild storm. Patrick Aston captured the dramatic footage at high tide and took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the video.

A shocked fellow X user said: “Did the car end up in the harbour in the end?!”

Mr Aston replied: “No. They were very lucky it didn’t. It was lifted closer to the edge a few times!”

Earlier today beach huts were swept into the sea as Storm Kathleen wreaks further havoc. Dramatic footage captured three of the Cornwall beachfront huts being whisked away by towering waves in Falmouth.

Predictions from the Met Office suggest gusts of 45-55mph (72-89km/h), increasing to 60-65mph (97-105km/h) on exposed coasts, were likely to have been reached overnight.

They also indicated that there could be some gusts in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and south Devon reaching up to 75mph (121km/h).

There are 12 flood warnings in place across Devon and Cornwall with areas around Bude on the north coast and St Michael's Mount on the south coast were among those places identified as at risk by The Environment Agency.

The Met Office has also advised the public of the potential risk of injury from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and seaside properties.

The warning also highlighted the possibility of power cuts and potential travel delays on roads, railways, ferries and at airports.
