A WEDDING guest in China’s Henan province caused a stir when he gave 3, 000 yuan (RM1, 928) in one-yuan coins as ang pow to the bride and groom, China Press reported.
Identified only by his surname Wang, he had intended it as a joke.
He took out a backpack, filled with coins weighing a total of 40kg, and poured its contents into a bowl meant for ang pow contributions.
The staff at the reception counter could not count all the coins, so the amount was simply recorded as “one bowl”.
Wang told the media that he had just wanted to bring a little more joy to the wedding with the prank.
He spoke of having visited four banks in order to exchange the cash he had with coins.
When the news went viral, one Internet user joked that the bride and groom should keep the coins and gift it to Wang when it was his turn to get hitched.
Wang had carried out the prank after combining ang pow from nine other guests.
> The daily also reported that a woman in Guangdong, China, presented a cow to a school as a gesture of appreciation after her son achieved the highest score in a college entrance examination.
The son had scored 654 out of a maximum of 750 marks, and his delighted parents wanted to personally thank the school and its teachers for their son’s achievement.
A video of the cow sporting a red ribbon while being presented to the school was widely circulated online.
Many students took selfies with the animal.
The cow is now being cared for at the school. According to the school management, they are thinking of selling it and using the proceeds to help students from poor families.
