COPS in Majorca have arrested a cruise ship entertainer after he allegedly raped a British holidaymaker on board.

       The man, 37, was detained in a cabin until the shop docked in Palma and police led him away.

       His alleged victim, 27, said she was raped at high sea.

       The man, from Kenya, was released on bail yesterday following a court appearance.

       He was arrested on Friday morning from the ship which he was apparently working on as an entertainer.

       Pictures show officers and police cars waiting at the dock to make the arrest.

       A Civil Guard spokesman in Majorca today confirmed that a man had been arrested after the accusations of rape.

       The spokesman said: “A Kenyan national was arrested and handed over to the courts for further questioning yesterday.

       “I am not in a position to say any more at this stage.”

       Local reports said the man held declined to answer questions from a judge who tried to quiz him.

       And sources said the British woman left the ship so she could seek medical treatment in hospital.

       Cops are understood to have taken her formal statement after she left.

       It was not immediately clear today if he is allowed to leave Majorca or has had to surrender his passport.

       Police are examining his mobile phone pending an ongoing investigation.

       The ship they were on has been named as the MSC Fantasia.

       It was docking in Majorca from Naples, Italy.

       A spokesperson for MSC Cruises said this afternoon: “We are aware of the incident that was reported on board MSC Fantasia.

       “This was reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities and we are assisting with their investigation.

       “The safety of our passengers is our number one priority. We have an uncompromising code of conduct and do not tolerate any behaviour that puts our passengers at risk.

       “As there is a criminal investigation underway we cant provide any further comment.”

       In April 2019 a court in Valencia released an 18-year-old Italian suspected of raping a British 17-year-old on another cruise ship after it left Palma.

       The teen was let go after the judge tasked with questioning him concluded he had no powers under Spanish law to launch a criminal investigation.

       Regional Spanish newspaper Levante EMV reported at the time the British teenager, who was travelling with her parents, told police her sex attacker forced her into his cabin before raping her.

       The fact that they were travelling on a Panamanian-flagged cruise liner in international waters meant the court felt it had no jurisdiction.

       An official said: “The procedure is that the court informs the embassies of those three countries so they can decide if they have jurisdiction to prosecute and can request the evidence.

       “What they do or don’t do after that will depend on officials from those three countries and is not something the judge here has any decision over.

       “The Italian man is not under investigation in Spain because there is no case against him here.”
