PUTRAJAYA: A Covid-19 outbreak at a Kuala Langat construction site is the largest out of 36 new clusters announced by the Health Ministry on Monday (Aug 9).
Located at Persiaran Mahkota in Tanjung Dua Belas, the cluster had at least 119 new Covid-19 cases to date.
The cluster was discovered from a targeted screening exercise which involved more than 450 workers of the construction site.
It was also one of 19 clusters which have been categorised as workplace-related outbreaks.
In total, the workplace clusters have contributed to at least 718 positive cases.
There are also 13 community outbreaks which resulted in 254 confirmed infections.
Two detention centre outbreaks were also found in Gua Musang, Kelantan and Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
The Bukit Mertajam detention centre had 114 confirmed cases after 333 inmates underwent a targeted screening exercise.
A community activity conducted at a religious centre in Kluang, Johor also resulted in a new Covid-19 outbreak.
Located at Jalan Pinang in Taman Lian Seng, Kluang, the cluster had 19 confirmed cases after 49 individuals underwent Covid-19 screening.
The index case is a 54-year-old man who developed symptoms on July 23 and tested positive on July 26.
A Covid-19 outbreak at a dialysis centre in Guar Chempedak, Kedah, had 21 cases.
The cluster involves staff and patients of the dialysis centre, which was located at Kampung Batu 18.
The index case was a 34-year-old woman who started having symptoms on Aug 1 and tested positive on Aug 8.
The cluster, according to the ministry, was a high-risk group cluster.
Nationwide, there were 1,232 active clusters.
