IPOH: The Perak Welfare Department is looking for a woman who left her baby at the Slim River hospital after giving birth to him two months ago.
Muallim District Social welfare protective officer Wan Nurhaliza Wan Ghazali said the baby, named Hussein, was left by his 22-year-old mother, identified as Rashidah Abdullah.
“The baby was born on April 22 and was diagnosed with jaundice, where he received further treatment at the hospital paediatric ward.
“On April 29, his mother was given permission by the paediatric ward to leave the hospital as she wanted to settle some personal matters in town.
“Since then, she has not come back and that was when the hospital contacted our office,” she said in a statement on Wednesday (June 23).
Wan Nurhaliza said the department has given a one-month waiting period for either Hussein’s mother or father to come to the Social Welfare office.
“Under Section 19 of the Child Act 2001 (amended 2016), we can help them find a solution to their problem.
“To our knowledge, the last address of Hussein’s parents is in Kampung Belakang Masjid Lama Hulu Bernam, Jalan Besar, Hulu Bernam,” she said.
Anyone with information regarding the matter may contact Wan Nurhaliza at her office located in front of Slim River market or contact her at 05-4529664.
