GEORGE TOWN: The Youth wings of Penang MCA and Gerakan have lodged a police report against former finance minister Lim Guan Eng for allegedly attending the Penang state assembly meeting when he was supposed to self-quarantine at home.

Penang MCA Youth chief Lim Swee Bok said Guan Eng's behaviour had caused fear among the public.

“He is supposed to undergo quarantine at home, but was spotted debating during the state assembly sitting. He violated the standard operating procedure for those who are undergoing quarantine. This is dangerous," said Swee Bok.

“I hope that the police will look into the issue and carry out investigations,” he added.

Swee Bok also questioned the reason why Guan Eng attended the state assembly when he was supposed to undergo quarantine at home.

“Guan Eng was not present at court for his graft trial and the reason was said to be because he was undergoing mandatory self-quarantine at home from Sept 1-10.

However, he was present at the Penang state assembly meeting on Sept 2.

Swee Bok said after making the police report at the Jalan Patani police station on Wednesday (Sept 8) that Guan Eng did not respect the court as he attended the state assembly meeting but did not turn up at court.

Guan Eng's graft trial - which was initially scheduled to resume on Wednesday (Sept 8) - has been postponed after he was declared to be a close contact of an individual with Covid-19.

His lawyer Gobind Singh told the Sessions Court that the former Penang chief minister was required to undergo a mandatory self-quarantine at home from Sept 1-10.

This means that Guan Eng would not be able to attend the Sept 8-10 dates initially set for the trial.

Lim is scheduled to undergo a second Covid-19 test on Wednesday, with his quarantine band to be cut on Friday (Sept 10).

Penang Gerakan Youth spokesman Mohd Aswaad Jaafar also lodged a police report over the matter.

He urged the police and related authorities to look into this issue and carry out investigations.
