KUCHING: Sarawak's daily Covid-19 cases broke the 1,000 mark for the third time with 1,403 infections reported on Wednesday (Aug 18).
The state disaster management committee said there were also two new fatalities, taking the state's cumulative tally to 90,810 cases with 491 deaths.
Kuching registered the most new cases with 557, followed by Serian with 247 and Samarahan with 228.
Twenty other districts recorded between two and 99 cases each.
The committee noted that 99% of the new cases fell into Categories One and Two (asymptomatic and mild symptoms).
Two cases each were listed in the more severe Categories Four (symptomatic and requiring oxygen) and Five (symptomatic and requiring ventilator support).
The latest deaths were a 71-year-old man who died at Sibu Hospital and a woman aged 88 who passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital here.
Both had comorbidities including hypertension and diabetes.
The committee also said 11 new clusters were reported in the state on Wednesday.
Among them are community clusters at Jalan Kampung Muara Tebas in Kuching as well as Kampung Tanah Mawang, Kampung Semada, Kampung Sungai Linsat and Ensebang Plaie in Serian.
Workplace clusters were also detected at a local authority's premises at Jalan DBKU, a factory at Jalan Tenaga and a food court at Central Park Commercial Centre, all in Kuching; as well as the workers' quarters of a factory at Mile 25 Jalan Kuching-Serian, a shipping company at Lorong Tanjung Kibong 2 in Sibu and an oil palm plantation at Dijih, Selangau.
