KUALA LUMPUR: The media's pursuit of the truth would lead to a better life for the people and push leaders to accountability, says MCA publicity bureau chairman Chan Quin Er.
"The truth improves our lives, it strengthens us, empowers the powerless, exposes injustices and pushes leaders to accountability," she said.
''Your tireless efforts have had a profound effect on Malaysia's political landscape,'' said Chan at a buka puasa dinner with media personnel at Wisma MCA on Thursday (April 21).
She said the media is an integral channel for political parties to disseminate verified information, adding that MCA would not have made it without the support of all media members.
Chan said there can never be ''enough credit'' given to all the media practitioners on the frontlines.
Also present was her deputy Mike Chong, who said that the presence of the media is important as it allows political parties to send verified information to the people.
He said there has been a shift in the way people consume news, adding it is important for political leaders to give equal attention to social media, news portals and traditional media.
Chong said that the 15th General Election can be held anytime, following Barisan Nasional's victories in the Melaka, Sarawak and Johor state elections.
He added that MCA has been taking the middle path by prioritising Malaysians in the party’s struggles.
''MCA is ever-ready for this and we are also ready to field candidates who are young, educated and with calibre, who are friendly to serve the people," said Chong.
