KUALA LUMPUR: A suspected drink driver attempted to flee the scene after allegedly killing a DBKL sub-contractor in a collision early Saturday (March 12) morning.
However, his escape was cut short when members of the public detained him.
The suspect was reportedly driving along Jalan Kuching at 3.15am when he suddenly changed lanes, crashing into road cones and a lorry, and hitting the 74-year-old sub-contractor who was doing work on the road divider.
According to police, the victim suffered grievous head injuries and died at the scene.
“After the incident, the 24-year-old suspect attempted to flee but was caught by members of the public.
"The case is being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol leading to death,” City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said in a statement.
The suspect has been remanded for three days.
