SIBU: Sarawak detected seven new clusters and recorded 581 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Aug 8).
These new clusters contributed a total of 113 new cases. Of the seven, four were in Kuching with one each in Sibu, Lundu and Tatau.
The state disaster management committee said in a statement the majority of the new cases, 263, were reported in Kuching.
Districts with cases in the double digits were Serian (84), Sri Aman (42), Samarahan (33), Bau (30), Bintulu (22), Sibu (21), Selangau (16), Tatau (14), and Miri and Lundu (12 each).
Other districts reporting cases were Meradong, Asajaya, Kapit, Pusa, Lubok Antu, Subis, Tebedu, Beluru, Kanowit, Simunjan, Sarikei, Saratok and Telang Usan.
"The other 15 districts recorded zero new cases," the statement said.
Cumulatively the total number of cases stands at 81,328.
The committee added that of the 581 new cases, 269 were detected from screenings of individuals who had contact with positive cases; 109 from screenings of individuals from active clusters; 52 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities; and 145 from other screenings at health facilities.
Three were Import B cases involving individuals who returned from Kuala Lumpur (two) and Sabah (one); while there were three Import A cases, from Indonesia (two) and Singapore (one).
The committee also reported that 277 patients have been discharged from hospitals and quarantine and low-risk treatment centres throughout the state.
"So far a total of 73,226 patients or 90.04% of the total cases have recovered from the disease," it said.
