Prince Charles may be planning to go against a royal tradition that dates back to Queen Victoria's reign. The future king's home as monarch is in contention, and could actually give Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, an opportunity to move in early. The List narrator Christine-Marie Liwag Dixon explained what will happen when the Duke of Cambridge is king.

She told viewers: "Prince William and Kate definitely don't live in a tiny shack in England.

"In fact, after they got married, the pair moved into an apartment at Kensington Palace.

"The Duchess even redecorated it to look just as swanky as any palace you could imagine.

"However, once Prince William becomes king, their residence will change."

Ms Liwag Dixon continued: "Obviously, they'll still live in a palace.

"But their upgrade will be a lot bigger, and a whole lot more prestigious.

"In fact, ever since Queen Victoria's reign, the British monarchs have all lived in Buckingham Palace in London.

"To that end, once Prince William ascends to the throne, it's likely that he will also move in."

The narrator added: "However, the family could actually move to Buckingham Palace before William becomes king.

"His father, Prince Charles, is reportedly planning on staying at his residence, Clarence House, when he becomes king."

It’s been claimed that the Prince of Wales is hoping to open many royal palaces to the public for longer periods of time throughout the year.

Currently Buckingham Palace is only open to the public a couple of months a year: between July and October.

This is usually when the Queen is at her holiday home in Scotland.

Charles is also known to have different tastes in royal residences than his mother.

For example, she spends a lot of time at Windsor Castle, but her son is reportedly not fond of it.

Additionally, the Queen loves Balmoral in Scotland, but Charles already has his own Scottish residence, Birkhall.
