A MUM-OF-TWO says her council house is a "living hell" after MUSHROOMS grew from the mould-coated walls and the ceiling collapsed in her kitchen.

       Adele Batchelor, 32, says her autistic 10-year-old son Cohen suffers panic attacks and fears the house in Northampton "will fall through" because of the gaping hole in the ceiling.

       And her daughter Imogen, seven, has been "in tears most weeks" because of how poorly the spores were making Adele.

       The mum-of-two ended up in hospital several times with severe breathing issues - which doctors put down to the mould.

       The mum-of-two told the Sun: "It has been a living hell, what it has done to my children.

       "My son is autistic and has ADHD and autism. It was giving him panic attacks. He thought the house would fall through.

       "Now he's even more upset and frightened that the reason I have had such ill health is because of the spores and mushrooms."

       The ceiling in the property - rented by housing association Northampton Partnership Homes - collapsed twice after a wrongly-fitted pipe caused leaks in her bathroom which spread to the kitchen.

       In the second more-severe collapse in September, chunks of plaster fell over the sink and cooker and Adele in the ribs.

       The leaks also caused mould to spread on the ceiling which eventually grew into huge sprouting mushrooms.

       Adele added: "I have been taken to the hospital numerous times for severe breathing difficulties.

       "Doctors couldn't work out why I wasn't getting better. They are now writing a letter and contacting the council.

       "It has been confirmed: the mould is causing me severe breathing difficulties and I am not sure if I will ever recover from that."

       All the pictures she brought home from school had 'hope you get better mummy' written on them.

       MOULD NIGHTMARE

       "We thought it could be something really seriously wrong with my lungs. She's been in tears most weeks."

       Adele first noticed the mould issue six months after moving into the property in December 2018.

       She added: "There have been visible cracks in the ceiling and mould which has been reported numerous times.

       "The hole in the ceiling takes up a quarter of my ceiling."

       Gary Duckmanton, assistant director at Northampton Partnership Homes, said: "We’re sorry for the issues Ms Batchelor is having, and for the upset caused by the leak issues.

       "We have made repeated visits to her home to fix the leak in the bathroom, the first being in October 2020.

       "The ceiling repair is booked for the December 1, and we will make sure this is redecorated once fixed.

       "We are sorry that Ms Batchelor has had to report the leak to us on multiple occasions, and I am investigating the work that was done to make sure the quality of repairs met our standards."

       They stressed that the hole in the ceiling has been fixed and the mould has since been treated.
