JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has unveiled its Puteri Wangsa candidate at the party’s first candidate announcement for the upcoming Johor polls.
President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Muda’s secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz was the one for the job in the Puteri Wangsa state seat.
"She is the backbone and iron lady of Muda.
"I hope the rakyat of Puteri Wangsa will give her a chance to fight for the people’s issues and education reforms, which are close to her heart," he said on Monday (Feb 14).
Amira Aisya, 27, said she was born and raised by a single mother, who was a teacher, in Kampung Melayu Majidee here.
"I am a Johorean through and through, as my relatives are all here in various parts of the state; and I aim to contribute to the state’s developments.
"My focus in the state seat is to bring economic developments, education reforms and increase the safety in the constituency," said the law graduate from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa.
The self-proclaimed political greenhorn added that she wanted to exercise service politics (politik khidmat), in line with Muda’s vision.
Puteri Wangsa was a state seat under the Tebrau parliamentary constituency.
The incumbent Puteri Wangsa assemblyman was Mazlan Bujang from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), who received 37,545 votes in the five-cornered fight against Umno’s Abd Aziz Tohak, Abdullah Husin (PAS) and independents Lim Yak Hong and Ting Choon Chai.
Johor will go to the polls on March 12 following the nomination date on Feb 26.
