JOHOR BARU: Police have confirmed an incident where a freight train smashed into a car, footage of which went viral on social media.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident happened on Wednesday (April 13) at around 9.40am in Pasir Gudang.
He said the incident between the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd freight train and a car took place at KM31.20 of the railway track near the main entrance to Johor Port.
“The train was driven by a 32-year-old man who was travelling from the Pasir Gudang station to the Johor Port station,’’ Supt Mohd Sohaimi said in a statement.
He said the train collided into the front left of the car entering the main entrance of Johor Port, driven by a 41-year-old man.
Supt Mohd Sohaimi said the car suffered damage but both the train and car drivers escaped unhurt.
He said the car driver did not notice the incoming train and that the case was being investigated under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
