KUALA LUMPUR: There is expected to be a heated contest to elect a second Parliament deputy speaker here on Tuesday (March 1).

The election for the post will see former deputy speaker, Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming vying for the post against Cameron Highlands MP Datuk Ramli Mohd Noor.

This comes after the seat fell vacant in August last year following the resignation of Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said from the post.

Several others had been tipped to contest for the post, among them Umno’s Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, who later declined to be nominated in favour of Ramli.

Nga previously held the post during the Pakatan Harapan administration.

Meanwhile, the issue of flood disaster management will be among the questions raised in the House Tuesday.

Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Dungun) is raising this question to the Prime Minister during Question Time.

Also to be raised is the implementation of toll payment using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology at all closed tolls on the North-South Highway (PLUS) and East Coast Highway 2 (LPT 2).

This will be raised by Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (Bersatu-Sabak Bernam), who will ask the Works Minister to clarify the issue during the oral Question and Answer session.
